Organic eggs from Lower Austria. Organic dark bread and organic pita bread in organic quality. NÖM milk from farmers we know personally. Breakfast the way it should be – every day at our place at Yppenplatz, until 3 pm.
A bad egg ruins the best breakfast. A good egg saves the most mediocre. That's why at Café Frida the breakfast menu isn't a side act – it's the heart of the menu.
We've been serving breakfast at Yppenplatz for over seven years. In that time we've learnt a lot: which bread arrives fresh every day from a Viennese bakery, which organic farms in Lower Austria produce the best eggs, which dairy suppliers actually deliver what they promise. We are officially BIOS-certified (AT-BIO-401) – not a marketing award but a daily standard.
If you're looking for a breakfast in Vienna that's tasty, honest and prepared with care – you're in the right place. Here's an overview of what matters to us when it comes to breakfast.
All our eggs come from the organic farm Höllerschmid – free-range hens, organic feed, deep-orange yolks. When you order a fried egg here, it's a very different egg from what you'd find in 95 % of Viennese cafés.
We are an official NÖM fresh ambassador. Milk, yoghurt, butter, cheese – all from Lower Austria, short distances, honest farmers. No stale-milk tricks, no price dumping at the farmers' expense.
For our breakfast sandwiches we use organic dark bread, for our French toasts organic pita bread pan-fried in egg. Both delivered fresh every day and prepared carefully – so every texture works.
Italian roast since 1892. Not trendy third-wave snob coffee but reliable quality. Cortado, cappuccino, espresso – everything you'd get in a proper Viennese coffeehouse, just served more modern.
The organic meat for our pastrami sandwiches and burgers also comes from Höllerschmid. Short supply chains, proper animal welfare, no factory-farming buzzwords.
We source part of our fresh fruit and veg directly from Brunnenmarkt – 100 metres from our door. You can't get more regional than that. What we buy there lands on the plate the same day.
A selection from our menu – fresh daily, until 3 pm. Vegetarian, vegan, savoury, sweet.
Organic pastrami, Emmental, red beet–tahini dip, feta, butter, soft organic egg, tomatoes and cucumbers, organic yoghurt with fresh fruit, bread basket. The honest Viennese breakfast, done organic.
Tofu scramble with organic chickpeas, organic smoked tofu, fresh baby spinach, organic peanut butter, Viennese bread. Vegan without compromising on taste – even hardcore meat eaters happily come back.
Organic egg omelette with spinach and feta, red beet–tahini dip and sun-dried tomato dip. A protein bomb for morning-workout people – or anyone who just wants something hearty.
Homemade baked beans (no can, all fresh), organic fried egg, a small French toast, organic bread. A breakfast like in London – just with better ingredients.
Pita bread pan-fried in organic egg on organic yoghurt with fresh fruit and organic maple syrup. Sweet but not overly sugary – the classic. Also available savoury, veggie or vegan.
Wheat tortilla pan-fried in organic egg, filled with homemade baked beans, avocado, organic feta and rocket. Our Mexican take on breakfast.
A Sunday morning matters to us just as much as a Monday morning. We serve breakfast every day until 3 pm – weekends included, even if you're only just crawling out of bed. Because real life doesn't work on the "breakfast only until 10:30" cliché.
Every day until 3 pm. Exception: Tuesday – we only open at 4:30 pm (because even we need a bit of a rest day).
We are officially BIOS-certified (AT-BIO-401) – which means regular independent inspections. Eggs, meat, dairy, coffee: consistently organic. For certain ingredients like pastrami we make conscious exceptions for higher quality – that's transparently labelled on the menu.
Yes, several: our Vegan Scramble with tofu scramble, vegan baked beans, vegan French toast, avocado toasts. All honestly thought-through vegan, not as an afterthought. Coffee also with oat or soy milk.
